Bole 2 Harlem it's a band. They played the contemporary Ethiopian traditional songs like HOYA HOYE and HAYLOGA..HO with new style.
They are able to make good rhythm out of the songs we used to know through our culture and life in Ethiopia.

This was my second time to read this title so I clicked it. Well it is amazing news. This things never happen so often....often???Not even in hundreds of years but why in Ethiopia? and why now?

Ethiopia said Sunday the number of foreign companies showing interest in the Horn of Africa country`s petroleum exploration and development has been increasing.

Abiy Hunegnaw, head of Petroleum Department of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, told journalists that the increase was due to shortage of fuel in the international market.

The regulation that Ethiopia issued in 2002 has also contributed for the rise in the number of foreign companies interested to work in Ethiopia, said Abiy.

Seven foreign companies, including Malaysia`s Petronas and PEXCO, a Netherlands-based company, have been licensed and are working in Ethiopia in petroleum exploration and development activities, he said.

The companies have been paying some 100 million U.S. dollars annually for the land they are working on.

A total of 17 foreign companies have shown interest and took bid documents to take part in the development of Calub and Hilala gas in east Ethiopia`s Somali state, he said.

The gas reserve in Calub, 1200 km east of Addis Ababa, is estimated at 2.7 trillion cubic feet and the reserve in Hilala, a locality found 75 km east of Calub, is estimated at 1.7 trillion cubic feet. The total area of the two gas fields is 285 square km of land.

Ethiopia is endowed with energy resources such as coal, oil and natural gas. Current natural gas reserves are estimated to be 24 million cubic meters.

Her name is zeritu. I strongly believe she is the first music revolutionist residing in Ethiopia. Her songs are totally different than the songs U used to hear. She have amazing resemblance with Shakira(Lebanese Colombian artist) mainly the song called Alekefam .
she make me her fan after few minutes of listening her songs.

This is the second book and the first Novel from Nega Mezlekia Ethiopian - Canadian former agricultural engineer who become a writer. His first book "Notes From Hyna's Belly" a boyhood from JIJIGA at the time of Ethio Somali war make a world wide hit Getting Governor Generals award and also best African book on New York times.
I was able to read some pages of this book in which I found it too similar to the book by HADIS ALEMAYEHU'S "HADIS" .Feudalism and its effects on the society With strong character called ASTER......
anyone read both books hope U comment on it.....

This is one of the great scenes on our planet........just a bit attention diversion from EU and Meles argument. This picture shows the space shuttle Discovery takes off attached to a Boeing 747 from Edwards Air Force Base in California. Discovery began the return journey to its Florida main base called Kennedy space Center from its landing site in California on Friday after having to land at Edwards Air Force base because of thunderstorms in Cape Canaveral prevented the space shuttle from landing in Florida.

The above script is taken from a book called Ciao Asmara by Justin Hill a British Volunteer teacher who lived in Eritrea for two years. The point is I used to think those guys (Eritreans) fee l they are the best spices in the planet ......(well around the east Africa) and now when there freedom made their life horrible they are coming back to the fact that Ethiopia is the reason why they are living.........poor freedomers....

Scenes of starving children, who were within days or hours of death, were beamed round the world in 1984.
One of the most enduring images in Michael Buerk's BBC report from Ethiopia was of a young British nurse, surrounded by 85,000 starving people.
Claire Bertschinger had the daily task of deciding which children would be allowed into the feeding station and which were too sick to be saved.
Singer Bob Geldof said the young nurse had been his inspiration for the original Band Aid single and Live Aid.
Inspiration
"In her was vested the power of life and death," said Geldof at the time, "She had become God-like and that is unbearable for anyone."
In fact the events of 1984 and 1985 left Claire so traumatised that for two decades she was unable to speak to anyone about what she had seen.

Claire Bertschinger
Claire, a nurse for the International Committee of the Red Cross, carried on her work in the feeding centre in Mekele, in Tigrey, and shut herself off from media reports, oblivious to the fact that she was the catalyst for so much fundraising.
"For me, the experience was so horrendous I did not want to read anything or hear anything about it," she said.
"It was a lot to do with my coping mechanism and shutting out my horror.
"I did not realise I was the catalyst for Live Aid. I did not know I had been on the film.
"I heard the Band Aid single but did not realise something was being done for Ethiopia, I thought he (Geldof) was making money for himself."
"I did not know a lot of what was going on in the outside world at that time. I was so engrossed in the feeding station.
"At the time you were so busy you would either sink or swim and I just carried on. I got sick and got boils, but I am a fighter and I went with my challenges."
Isolation
When Michael Buerk and the BBC crew arrived, Claire had been in the country for nearly four months, during which time few people in the world knew of their plight.
Following his film the world was mobilised and aid started pouring in.
But Claire said one of her clearest memories of that day was taking an anaemic baby to the hospital for a blood transfusion.

"They had no blood, so I gave him one unit of mine and my diary entry was that 'today I have done something'."
On Monday Claire publishes her autobiography, entitled 'Moving Mountains', (published by Doubleday) using her diary entries, letters and memories to paint a vivid picture of her experiences.
Michael Buerk said 'Moving Mountains' was the story "one of the true heroines of our times."
He said she was: "An ordinary woman who did extraordinary things and really did move mountains."
Record
Claire uses her diary entries to illustrate just how intolerable the situation in Ethiopia had become, and her despair at the terrible choices she was being forced to make.
One entry states: "There are thousands of people outside. I have counted 10 rows and each row has more than 100 people in and I can only take 60-70 children today, but they all need to come in.
"Hell, what a job. How can I decide?"
She said she felt overwhelmed by the scale of the crisis and that it was not until she went back to visit Ethiopia 18 months ago, meeting some of the children she had help to save, that she realised she had actually done some good.

After her time in Ethiopia, Claire spend a couple of years in Switzerland, working and learning French.
She now lives in the UK and teaches at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Claire, who is a guest at Live 8 this weekend, said although the celebrity input had helped raise awareness of poverty; that everybody needed to play their part if the World was to finally 'Make Poverty History'.
A proportion of the royalties from Claire's book will be donated to A-CET the African Children's Educational Trust - a small charity supporting needy young Africans to improve themselves through education.

Yes I went to Kyoto and ..........I canÂt tell you how much funIi had it was one of the happiest days in Japan. I took a plane from oita air port at 5:37pm. BeforeIi go in to the plane I am happened to be the only black and my bag got searched by the x-ray three times. It was ok for me coz theydidn'tnÂt ask me to open it. The plane was big I thought they t use thBoeinging jumbo jet for the domestic use but they do, and the seats were all fulAfterter I start the flight I started to notice that the plane is dose not make that much sound and I can hardly feel the shake........heemmmm there must be something wrong wiEthiopianian Air . I got to Itami Air port in Osaka and took a bus to Kyoto. It took one hr to Kyoto.
Hemmm I had completely wrong Idea about KyoIo i thought it is not a city, I thought it is like one big historical reserve old town........Completelyely the opposite a big city with a very planed roads and subway system.........didn'tidnÂt took me two hrs to like it all....and after that I started saying......woooow, wohohoo, wohohahawo....... The timing for the cherry blossom was perfect.......April 10 I can say that all the cherry blossoms in the city were shining like fireworks .......pink......white........ all the historical places KiNGAKUJI,MIZUTERA ,ginGakuji,and philosophy street were full of people with lots of smile coz of the flowers. I have to go to class now I am going to tell you about the historical places and about Ethiopianpian DUR DUR Band in Kyoto on my next blog. Cheers

Going to Kyoto

Tomorrow I am going to Kyoto to see my Uncle Shemsu who is a student in Kyoto University and his friend YUKO . Kyoto is the former capital of Japan with an old beautiful and Traditional culture. As I heard it from my friends there is one birth taking palace which was built on the 17th century....(I don't know the name of the king I will check it out for u tomorrow) which is painted with gold. I found it difficult to Imagine how real gold painted place would look like and how much money spent on it.
The other thing I forward to see is the way how the ladies dress in Kyoto in which everyone is saying they have one of the best Kimono, and famous for wooden shoes and heavy makeup.....hemmm traditional.
I will try to upload some things by tomorrow at this time hop I get many things to write I have to leave now.
